- Toronto worker co-op movie night and mixer
- JEDDI Business Conversions project info session
- Committee exploring challenges for equity-denied groups in worker co-ops
As we enter into spring, CWCF looks forward to continuing connections with our members. For those living in the Greater Toronto area, we hope many of you will be able to join us at Carrot Common on March 27 for a screening of the film (R)evolution, le travail est humain, which explores worker co-ops’ inspiring solutions to current issues. This 30-minute documentary is in French with English subtitles, to be followed by a meet-and-greet with the CWCF board chair and members of Toronto’s co-op sector. This film received an enthusiastic response at our 2023 Conference, and we’re sure it will resonate with this audience as well. We’re also excited about the chance to connect in person after the film, particularly in a year when our Conference will be virtual. We heard from members across the country how much they appreciated the mixers we held last spring and summer, and we’re eager to sustain that momentum this year. Look for more details in the coming months about other mixers to be held across the country. We will be holding one in Winnipeg the evening of May 27.
CWCF’s JEDDI Business Conversions project is drawing to a close. We are pleased to be holding an informal question and answer session this month, which we hope will launch an ecosystem for our business conversion cases to connect. The project has had a great impact both on the businesses with which we’ve worked and on CWCF as a whole, and while this specific project may be concluding soon, we remain committed to ensuring broader representation of equity-denied groups within Canada’s worker co-op sector. I would like to take this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to the Project Coordinator, Janielle Maxwell, who took a great leadership role in carrying out the project. The website content and lessons learned will live on!
On a related note, we are pleased that a committee researching challenges faced by members of equity-denied groups is reconvening. We have become more aware of the challenges faced by these groups, and plan to research insights into how these can be addressed. Watch for more in upcoming newsletters.
